Job Title: Creaform - Intern, R&D (m/f/d) 1
Fontaine, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, FR, 38600
Theme
- Computer science, numerical computation & analysis.
- Mathematics & statistics.
- Photogrammetry and computer vision.
Period & duration
The internship will take place in 2026. The internship will last between 5 and 6 months. The ideal candidate will be in their second year of a Master's degree (M2).
Internship title
Identification and correspondence of points in the context of 3D vision.
Function and tasks
Ametek/Creaform designs and develops innovative optical measurement systems, some of which are developed by the R&D team in Fontaine. The internship offered is part of a medium-term development plan for our products.
Currently, in our processing chain, a matching phase is performed using a heuristic algorithm to initialize an ICP (Iterative Closest Point). Although this method is functional, it can be resource-intensive and sometimes insufficient in terms of robustness. We have identified an alternative approach, called DCP (Deep Closest Point), which relies on the use of deep learning techniques to improve point matching. The intern will first study the DCP method and its implementation, which will be provided. He or she will then need to familiarize themselves with our calculation and method comparison module in order to integrate this approach and compare it with the solutions currently used in our products. Depending on the results obtained, he or she may be required to integrate this method into our operating code, improve or adapt it, or even explore other innovative approaches to optimize the matching phase.
The candidate will work within the team responsible for developing these new measurement processes. They will carry out implementations in C++ using our libraries and implement photogrammetric calculation steps. These software developments will be conducted using the C++20 standard, the STL, and the team's libraries, as well as those offered by the Boost C++ organization (www.boost.org). The development environment will be Visual Studio 2022 on Windows 11.
