Job Description: 

The Senior Process Engineer will be accountable to actively lead and manage all Specialty Powders process development and process management activities at the Eighty Four, PA facility and to deliver results consistent with customer requirements and the location business plan.  Accountable for equipment design and selection, process engineering, and the continuous improvement activities for high pressure water atomization while ensuring worker safety, compliance with applicable environmental regulations, and integration with the company quality systems.  Responsible for improving and streamlining our manufacturing processes through the design, configuration, implementation, and integration of new technologies and industry best practices. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Active participant in process safety following the division’s best in class practices.
  • Accountable as the lead engineer of all Eighty Four, PA activities related to process engineering and development in high pressure water atomization and subsequent metal powder processes.
  • Primary process resource to supply knowledge, expertise, and direction with respect to physical/mechanical aspects of processes to the location Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales functions in support of product development activities.
  • Accountable directly and through others to create manufacturing practices, procedures, systems, and routes reflective of business’ quality and safety practices.
  • Lead engineer directing equipment specifications and design for capital projects. Develop and maintain documentation for new and existing systems, to include, but not limited to, SOP’s, training manuals, and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Collaborate with production employees, other engineers, and operations to understand data collection and automation needs. Collaborate or occasionally manage projects to provide solutions that improve safety, quality, capability, reliability, or output.
  • Design and execute process development and process optimization activities to improve capability and stability. Implement monitoring and control plans.
  • Work with the Business Segment Manager to establish and communicate the annual site process development plan and the related operating budget. Ensure all process development activities operate consistently to plan and within budget. Provide weekly reports summarizing process development activities and projects’ status.
  • Maintain membership and active involvement in industry, trade, and professional organizations for the benefit of the company and the employee.
  • Maintain a self-improvement program through conferences, seminars, courses, and readings to continue to develop expertise in manufacturing management, general management, relevant technical issues, and the metals industry.

 

Requirements For Consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or other related engineering degree.
  • Six (6) years of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on process development and optimization.  Experience with high differential pressure systems, multiple fluid systems, incompressible fluids, constrained flow through critical orifices, and/or internal flow highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience working in a manufacturing facility as a Process or Fluids Engineer or equivalent role.  Materials manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience with CFD simulation to design and improve fluid systems a plus. Experience can be either through direct execution of CFD or using external resources to economically perform design analysis.
  • Statistical process knowledge including Six Sigma (or similar) process training.
  • Ability to lead, participate in, or act independently to identify and implement process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with project management and/or project execution in a structured manner.
  • Willingness to broaden technical horizons and be involved in multiple aspects of the business.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with individuals at all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to provide occasional off-hours support as needed.
