SUMMARY OF POSITION: Manage, schedule, and monitor production performance to optimize both quality and on-time delivery within budgeted cost structure, while supporting all areas of operations through the effective use of production resources. Oversee development and maintenance of procedures and policies that ensure compliance with industry regulatory and ISO requirements. Ensure daily practice complies with same. Develop and monitor budgets for capital, Cost of Goods Sold and expenses. Coordinate budgeted expenditures with business plan to ensure quotes reflect current plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Planning and Scheduling: Will contribute to and oversee planning and scheduling of production activities to meet contractual delivery commitments. Will work in conjunction with the Master Scheduler to develop and sustain an accurate means of forecasting and assigning status to production activities using tools such as Visual Manufacturing or other appropriate manufacturing software.
• Coordination of Non-recurring Tasks: Works in conjunction with all support resources including Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to define and plan activities required to support new products or processes such that they can be released to production in a timely fashion to achieve desired delivery.
• Communication and Status: Responsible for establishing objectives and communicating them to the entire organization in a manner which efficiently and effectively defines responsibilities. May serve as the customer interface with responsibility for relationship development and project support.
• Constraint Management: Identifies and manages critical resources and eliminates capacity constraints by developing alternate means or additional capacity to achieve desired throughput. Works through Purchasing, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering to develop and certify approved sources for subcontracting peak capacity requirements. Develops and justifies capacity-driven capital expenditures. Utilizes scheduled backlog and associated labor hours to determine manning requirements. Coordinates this information with Human Resources.
• Delivery Commitments: Integrates non-recurring activities, process requirements, and process constraint information and existing backlog to determine lead times supporting bidding and estimating as well as the establishment of delivery commitments for new orders.
• Job Cost Analysis: Utilizes manufacturing software to accurately track material and labor costs and compares actual cost to pricing estimates on a job-by-job basis. Recommends changes to process or pricing to maximize gross margins as reported by finance in monthly statements. Works through Business Unit Managers to validate the accuracy of data recorded by production personnel.
• Bidding and Estimating: Coordinate open RFQs to maintain a response time of five working days or less.
• Continuous Improvement: Develop a set of quantifiable attributes (quality and delivery performance, lead time, cost, et c.) which reflect progress or highlight areas of improvement. Maintain information such that it is accurate, timely, and meaningful to the general production population. Solicit input from the organization and develop a means to utilize constructive ideas for performance improvement.
• Financial Performance: Responsible for developing budget inputs for annual business planning purposes based on actual production experience and established budget guidelines. Held accountable for performance to the established budget through participation in monthly financial reviews and active management of direct costs associates with labor, material, and outsourcing as well as both fixed and variable overhead expenses.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
• Participate in management reviews and corporate focus groups for evaluation and problem-solving activities.
• Once employee demonstrates competency in position, he/she may be required to train others in similar roles.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION: Associate degree or equivalent experience in Manufacturing Management required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum 5-10 years management experience. Experience in machining environment required (for all divisions except C&T). Medical device experience preferred.
SKILLS: Ability to effectively lead an organization with little supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop, motivate, and influence people. Working knowledge of computer systems. Ability to assess situations and solve problems in a timely manner. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Executive presentation skills with employees, clients, and shareholders.
