The Senior Buyer performs all functions related to SRM, strategic and tactical planning, purchasing, negotiating, and expediting on assigned commodities and SCI products.  Works closely with supplies, other Ametek locations, SCOE, GSO teams, manufacturing, engineering, sales, as well as Leadership on assigned projects.  Manages supplier and EMS relationships, including delivery performance, and development, implements inventory reduction programs (consignment, VMI, and stocking), monitors and updates lead-time and safety stocks to ensure continuity of supply.  This role will be responsible for partnering with the Logistics/Procurement/Materials Managers, suppliers, plant management, engineering, operations, and other associates as required. The successful candidate must be professional, highly motivated, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, have strong ability to receive guidance and execute on projects and objectives in a thorough, complete, and timely manner. 

 

Key Responsibilities:         

  • Manage MRP for assigned commodities or products, performing all analysis, planning, and execution to maintain continuity of supply, while optimizing inventory levels 
  • Collaborate with SCOE/ GSO to develop sourcing strategies and lead the supplier selection process
  • Aggressively work to resolve any shortages affecting Manufacturing to ensure Continuity of Supply
  • Implement supplier inventory programs to support inventory reduction (VMI, consignment, stocking, etc.)
  • Generate continuous improvement projects
  • Actively pursue methods that will reduce the lead-time for “critical path” materials with no extra risk or expense to Ametek. This person also has the responsibility to keep the E&O (excess & obsolete) inventory low and under control.
  • Prepare RFQ’s, negotiate with suppliers, and initiate purchase orders
  • Review open orders reports to ensure on time delivery of all materials in assigned commodities / products – maintaining promise date integrity at all times in Oracle
  • Monitor supplier’s performance against company quality and delivery goals
  • Develop and manage long term agreements with suppliers that are providing a strategic advantage
  • Lead activities required in make vs buy decision for new or current production components
  • Identify and develop opportunities for cost reduction utilizing alternative sourcing (including international sourcing), negotiation, supplier consolidation, etc. to maintain and achieve companywide goals and metrics.
  • Monitor market and supplier trends for opportunities and risk
  • Provide support to resolve supply issues including expedited deliveries, payables and rejected material matters.
  • Interface internally with Sales, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing Teams as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of Procurement experience in a relevant supply chain, purchasing, materials, manufacturing environment required or comparable work-related experience. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain / Procurement, Inventory Management, Logistics or Operations Management.  Technical background or MBA is a plus.

 

Desired Qualifications:

The Senior Buyer should be an experienced professional Buyer with 5+ years of experience, with a successful record of engaging with suppliers to negotiate, expedite, and manage the relationship.  The Senior Buyer will be able to hit the ground running and be able use knowledge and prior work experience to contribute to the business quickly. A MBA would be desirable for the candidate interested in this position.   

 

Compensation

Employee Type:  Salaried
Salary Minimum:  $70,000
Salary Maximum:  $95,000
Incentive:  1289
