Job Description: 

The Quality Engineer (QE) is a manufacturing-facing technical resource who leads and supports root cause analysis, MRB/problem disposition, corrective action, and process improvement to reduce defects, scrap, rework, and escapes. The QE partners closely with Manufacturing and Engineering to stabilize processes and prevent recurrence of quality issues. Routine inspection and testing are primarily executed by the Quality Technician role; the QE provides technical support and escalation coverage when needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead structured root cause investigations and drive effective corrective/preventive actions for manufacturing and field quality issues; verify effectiveness.
  • Support and facilitate MRB dispositions with Engineering/Operations.
  • Document technical justification as required; reduce repeat MRB drivers and aging.
  • Analyze defects and trends (scrap/rework/escapes) and execute data-driven improvements using quality/Lean tools.
  • Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering to improve process capability, error-proofing, manufacturability, and clarity/robustness of work instructions and technical requirements.
  • Provide technical support for regulated/customer requirements when applicable (including 10 CFR Part 21 screening support per process).
  • Provide technical escalation support to Quality Technicians for complex issues or unclear acceptance criteria.
  • Support QMS/system activities as needed (document updates, audit readiness support, records improvements).

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Quality, Industrial, Electrical (or related technical discipline) and 2+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing quality, process engineering, or production support; OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial/Electrical/Mechanical) or related technical discipline.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation (drawings/schematics/prints/parts lists) and collaborate across functions to resolve technical manufacturing issues.
  • Proficiency in common documentation and analysis tools (MS Word/Excel; other tools as needed for documentation and tracking).

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong cross-functional communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of FMEA, root cause analysis, Lean Six Sigma, DFMA (or equivalent prevention/problem-solving tools).
  • Experience with using measurement and test equipment (e.g. calipers, DMM)
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and regulated quality environments; nuclear QA / Part 21 awareness a plus.
  • Auditor training/ASQ/NQA-1 exposure is a plus.
