Job Title: Product Manager
Columbus, OH, US, 43085
AMETEK Solidstate Controls (SCI), a leading provider of Industrial UPS systems, battery chargers, integrated power systems, DC systems, and critical power infrastructure serving power generation, transmission & distribution, nuclear, oil & gas, data center, renewable energy, and industrial markets, is seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead portfolio growth, product strategy, commercial development, and new product development.
Job Summary:
The SCI Product Manager serves as the commercial and strategic leader for the product portfolio, responsible for managing the complete product lifecycle — from market discovery and business case development through launch, growth, profitability improvement, and end-of-life decisions. This role acts as the Voice of the Customer, driving innovation through customer engagement, AI-enabled market intelligence, adjacent technology evaluation, and close collaboration with engineering, sales, operations, and marketing teams.
The ideal candidate combines strong business acumen, technical understanding, and commercial development skills to drive organic growth through core product expansion, new product introduction, and market development in adjacent technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Portfolio Management
- Own the global SCI product portfolio strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle management process.
- Develop and execute 3–5 year product and technology roadmaps aligned with market trends, customer needs, and company growth objectives.
- Evaluate portfolio performance and lead lifecycle decisions including growth investments, simplification, rationalization, and end-of-life planning.
- Identify opportunities to expand into adjacent technologies, markets, and solutions that leverage SCI’s core competencies.
- Lead portfolio and funnel reviews to prioritize future investments and resource allocation.
Voice of Customer & Market Development
- Serve as the primary Voice of the Customer across SCI’s strategic markets.
- Lead customer discovery using structured research, interviews, site visits, and industry engagement (e.g., New Product Blueprinting).
- Identify unmet customer needs and emerging market opportunities that support future growth.
- Partner with sales and marketing to develop target market strategies, key account growth plans, and segment expansion initiatives.
- Evaluate opportunities in critical power, digital power infrastructure, energy storage integration, AI-enabled power management, and other adjacent technologies.
Commercial & Sales Development
- Drive commercial and sales development strategies that accelerate growth across core products, adjacent technologies, and new product introductions.
- Develop commercial toolkits — value propositions, competitive battle cards, sales playbooks, ROI/TCO tools, application guides, and customer-facing collateral — to enable the sales organization.
- Define and deliver marketing strategy in partnership with marketing, including positioning, messaging, segmentation, campaign themes, and go-to-market plans for new and existing products.
- Equip sales teams through product training, demand-generation content, and technical/commercial enablement materials.
- Support key account strategies, strategic sales pursuits, and channel development in collaboration with sales leadership.
- Partner cross-functionally with engineering, operations, service, supply chain, and finance to align commercial priorities and resolve product, application, or competitive challenges.
- Represent the product line at customer engagements, industry events, and trade shows to build pipeline and gather market insight.
- Influence aftermarket & installed-base growth — partner with service, sales, and marketing to grow parts, upgrades, service offerings, and lifecycle value, and ensure aftermarket needs are reflected in product, pricing, and go-to-market plans, without direct ownership of aftermarket operations or P&L.
New Product Development & Innovation
- Lead New Product Development activities from concept through commercialization.
- Manage product requirements, business cases, market sizing, competitive assessments, value propositions, and launch readiness.
- Provide commercial program management throughout the Stage Gate / Toll Gate development process.
- Collaborate closely with engineering to translate customer needs into technical requirements and product specifications.
- Ensure successful launches through coordinated efforts across engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, sales, service, and marketing.
AI & Digital Enablement
- Leverage AI tools and advanced analytics for market research, competitive intelligence, customer insights, forecasting, and business case development.
- Partner with engineering and digital teams to evaluate AI-enabled technologies, predictive maintenance, remote monitoring, and software-driven product enhancements.
- Improve product management processes through automation, data analytics, and digital tools.
- Support development of digital offerings and recurring-revenue opportunities associated with SCI products and services.
Pricing, Profitability & Commercial Excellence
- Develop and maintain value-based pricing strategies that support revenue growth and margin objectives.
- Monitor product-level revenue, profitability, market share, and competitive position.
- Lead annual pricing reviews and new product pricing strategies.
- Develop product forecasts in collaboration with sales, operations, and finance.
- Identify and support VAVE initiatives that improve product profitability and competitiveness.
Market & Competitive Intelligence
- Maintain deep understanding of industry trends, customer requirements, regulations, and competitive developments.
- Monitor emerging technologies, competitor product launches, and industry investments.
- Develop market assessments and growth strategies for both core SCI products and adjacent markets.
- Support strategic planning through market analysis, growth opportunity assessments, and business case development.
