Job Summary:

The Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing demand planning, forecasting, and production scheduling for our industrial electrical equipment manufacturing operations. This role will lead a small team of planners and work cross-functionally with departments such as Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure alignment of production goals, customer demand, and inventory management. The Planning Manager will also play a key role in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the planning process and drive operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Demand Planning & Forecasting:

  • Lead the development and implementation of robust demand planning processes.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to gather, validate, and refine demand forecasts.
  • Analyze historical data, market trends, and customer orders to create accurate short-term and long-term demand forecasts.
  • Ensure alignment between demand forecasts and production capacity.

Production Scheduling:

  • Develop and maintain a master production schedule to meet demand forecasts and customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate with production teams and project managers to ensure efficient utilization of resources and capacity.
  • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as necessary to address variances or bottlenecks.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of demand planners, fostering a high-performance, highly productive culture.
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback and coaching.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Sales, Finance, Service, and Production teams to ensure alignment on production goals and inventory levels.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings to review and update demand and production plans based on changing priorities or customer needs.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) by coordinating planning activities and ensuring smooth transitions into manufacturing.

Inventory Management:

  • Optimize inventory levels, balancing the need to meet customer demand while minimizing excess and obsolescence.
  • Monitor raw material availability and coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure timely procurement of materials.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives in the demand planning and production scheduling processes.
  • Utilize data analytics and forecasting tools to enhance planning accuracy and reduce lead times.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, operations, business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, forecasting, or production scheduling within a manufacturing environment, preferably in industrial equipment manufacturing.
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and influencing departments such as Sales, Supply Chain, and Finance
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and process optimization.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, etc.).

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable plans.
  • Proficiency in demand planning software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across multiple functions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

 

Physical Requirements

Medium work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Stooping:  Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.  This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Crouching:  Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Reaching:  Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing:  Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Fingering:  Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Grasping:  Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Feeling:  Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Hearing:  Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction.  Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.

Repetitive Motions:  Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Talking:  Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.  Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.
