At AMETEK, we don’t just manufacture market-leading electronic instruments and electromechanical devices — we are using innovation to make the world a better place; technology to improve lives; and talent to solve challenges that matter.

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer – Project Management & Product Development is responsible for leading the design, improvement, and project execution of AMETEK Solidstate Controls’ HDR line of power controllers and Plasma Power Sources, as well as the Bargraph indicator product line. This role leverages a mechanical engineering foundation to manage technical projects and orders, support product development, and ensure alignment with customer requirements, production needs, timelines, and business objectives.

In addition to HDR and Bargraph ownership, this role will support SCI product development and production activities, including mechanical design support, manufacturing issue resolution, documentation updates, product improvements, and cross-functional coordination with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Service.

Working cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Electrical Engineering, Sales, and Service teams, this role drives successful product outcomes, supports manufacturing throughput, leads VAVE initiatives, and maintains high-quality engineering deliverables across SCI, HDR, and Bargraph product lines. The position also provides mechanical engineering support for SCI production and new or revised product-development efforts where mechanical design, documentation, tooling, or manufacturing support is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Product Lifecycle

  • Lead project management for HDR and Bargraph initiatives from initiation through delivery, defining scope, schedules, and resource needs, and maintaining plans and tracking tools to keep programs on time and on budget.
  • Serve as the mechanical engineering point of contact across the Bargraph, HDR power controller, and plasma power source product lines, leading cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, and Electrical Engineering throughout the full product lifecycle.
  • Partner with Sales, Quoting, and Service to align product designs with customer, application, and field-support requirements, translating those requirements into manufacturable engineering solutions.
  • Provide mechanical design input, documentation updates, and manufacturability improvements for SCI product development, and troubleshoot enclosure, harness, hardware, and assembly issues for SCI and Sheet Metal teams to sustain throughput and quality.
  • Work with Manufacturing and Quality to resolve production concerns and support timely release of updated designs, drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
  • Support obsolescence management and design updates for legacy HDR and Bargraph products.
  • Support SCI new-product introduction and sustaining-engineering activities from concept through production release.
  • Provide technical leadership for all UV printing applications, including faceplate and scaleplate engineering setup and ongoing production support.
  • Drive Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives, evaluating components, materials, and assembly techniques to reduce cost while maintaining performance and reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field
  • 7+ years of mechanical design and product-development experience in an electrical, electronics, or industrial equipment environment
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software and the creation of drawings and bills of material (BOMs)
  • Working knowledge of sheet metal design, enclosures, PCB/display integration, and assembly processes
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g., MS Project)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences
  • Strong analytical thinking and adaptability
  • Knowledge of nuclear or other regulated product requirements is a plus
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
