AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) is a division of AMETEK, Inc. a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices. The Specialty Metal Products division includes seven successful businesses with operating facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, and Malaysia.
With a strong focus on safety, the AMETEK Superior Tube plant in Collegeville, PA custom makes precision tubing with applications in medical, aerospace, nuclear, and the defense sectors. We are seeking a safety-conscious, action-oriented Purchasing Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, this role will negotiate and procure all goods and services for the Superior Tube metals facility with the utmost focus on quality, delivery performance, and cost. The role will also identify and qualify new suppliers.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain safe work areas and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules.
- Convert approved purchase requisitions into purchase orders.
- Obtain order confirmations from suppliers.
- Work with Planning, Commercial, and Operations to ensure material availability to meet customer delivery needs.
- Strong coordination with the Finance team to ensure all orders and invoices are reviewed, approved, and paid in a timely manner.
- Communicate with suppliers to obtain price and delivery information for sales RFQ’s.
- Communicate with vendors to investigate/resolve discrepant invoices and unbilled purchase receipts.
- Coordinate corrective actions with Engineering and Suppliers for non-conforming products and disposition accordingly.
- Participate in departmental projects to reduce costs, improve quality, and on-time delivery.
- Lead operational excellence cost savings initiatives.
- Continuously seek out and advise management of ways to continuously improve the quality of the process or methods employed in the day-to-day activities of the function and participate in implementation of approved changes.
- Responsible for continuously investigating new suppliers and qualifying those that can meet or exceed Superior Tube's specifications and expectations.
- Establish new supply agreements with vendors as needed.
Other duties may include, but are not limted to:
- Perform or assist with any departmental operations and workflows to meet production schedules, requirements, and track established KPI’s.
- Recommend revisions to control documentation such as production check lists, operating procedures, and policy manuals. Make and distribute authorized modifications as required.
- Maintain tax forms, government and import documents, along with certificate of insurance as required.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Update any purchasing or quality control books and logs as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Occasional lifting of lightweight materials, rare lifting of lightweight materials (up to 25 lbs.) Some pushing & pulling and reaching, continuous sitting, occasionally standing and walking. Continuous use of computer, keyboard and mouse. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, composite toed shoes, and hearing protection. Must be able to walk up to 15% of the time on a manufacturing environment around heavy equipment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or technical degree preferred in business or engineering.
- Minimum 4 years of procurement and/or supply chain experience, preferred in metals industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Microsoft office suite experience.
This is an on-site position.
