The Molding Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting injection molding machines and related equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality production. This role supports manufacturing by performing mold changes, process adjustments, product inspections, and routine equipment upkeep.
Machine Operation & Production:
- Set up, operate, and monitor injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform mold changes, tool swaps, and machine adjustments as needed.
- Start up and shut down molding processes following established procedures.
- Ensure production meets cycle time, quality, and efficiency targets.
Process Control & Troubleshooting:
- Identify, diagnose, and correct molding issues such as flashing, short shots, burns, and warpage.
- Adjust machine parameters to optimize performance and reduce scrap.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve process stability and output.
Quality Assurance:
- Inspect molded parts visually and with measurement tools (calipers, gauges, etc.).
- Document quality checks and maintain accurate production records.
- Work closely with Quality team to resolve defects and maintain standards.
Maintenance & Safety:
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on molds, machines, and auxiliary equipment.
- Clean molds, machinery, and work areas to ensure a safe, organized environment.
- Follow all company safety policies, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures, and PPE requirements.
Communication & Coordination:
- Work closely with Production Supervisors, Process Engineers, and Quality Technicians.
- Communicate machine issues, material shortages, or process concerns promptly.
- Train or assist new team members as required.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 3 - 7 years experience as a Technician with injection molding or plastics manufacturing.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, production drawings, and basic measurement tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
- Knowledge of Scientific Molding principles.
- Familiarity with robots and automation systems.
- Experience with materials such as ABS, polypropylene, nylon, or engineered resins.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 10–30 lbs as needed.
- Manual dexterity and good hand‑eye coordination.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving machinery.
