This position will direct and coordinate the activities of the engineering groups including Electrical, Mechanical, Software and Embedded, Engineering Test, and Mechanical CAD, project and process management, documentation, and other miscellaneous services that support the success of the Engineering department’s research and development and new product efforts.
Job Responsibilites:
- Manage the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
- Direct and conduct the preparation of drawings and sketches necessary to initiate new product production.
- Provide project management for all Engineering programs. Forecast and manage to:
- Spending milestones and budget
- Timeline milestones and budget
- Direct and/or assist in the development of new product quotations.
- Write and/or assist in the writing of customer proposals.
- Provide technical support to all other functions of the company particularly Sales and Marketing, Production, Production Test, and Customer Service.
- As needed, interface with customers in support of Sales and Marketing.
- Represent Engineering and report status of engineering programs at the Managers Meeting.
- Review and approve bi-weekly timesheets for the Engineering department.
- Review and approve Employee Free Time (EFT) requests and forward forms to payroll.
CAD Responsibilities:

- Participate in, and oversee, the development of detailed electro-mechanical designs for new, modified and revised products. This includes printed circuit board layouts and components, mechanical assemblies, and shipping containers. Prepare or direct preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
- Review engineering data to determine feasibility of product design. Evaluate design ideas based on factors such as aesthetics, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
- Direct the following tasks:
- Preparation of detailed product drawings including the layout of all electrical and mechanical parts.
- Simulation and analysis of mechanical performance parameters including cooling, ventilation and structural strength.
- Research on mechanical components and systems to discover facts, or perform research directed toward investigation, evaluation, and application of known mechanical engineering theories and principles.
- Design and establish specifications, standards, policies and procedures related to packaging, mechanical support, ventilation and cooling. Maintain awareness of the latest technical advances in these areas. Apply known concepts to new and updated products.
- Configuration management of product baseline documentation through the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) control process.
- Confer with Engineering personnel to clarify or resolve problems and prepare design modifications as required.
- Ensure that project time schedules are met.
- Provide material lists and preliminary design for estimating product costs.
- Direct the release of approved designs to Production Department.
- Conduct continuous improvement of the CAD hardware and software to achieve more efficient and fully integrated design, drafting and publishing documentation.
- Administer software tool licenses for the Engineering Department and ensure employees are trained on the use of AR software tools.
- Recommend appropriate standards, policies and procedures as they apply to Engineering.
- Direct the preparation of illustrations for development and advertising purposes.
Software and Embedded Responsibilites:

- Perform development and design responsibilities and provide direction to a group of digital hardware and software developers.
- Perform requirements definition for control system hardware and software by analyzing published standards and/or customer requirements to determine appropriate system functionality and performance.
- Translate system functionality and performance into hardware and software specifications as necessary.
- Design, develop or acquire hardware and software elements of a system.
- Design, develop or acquire all system interface hardware and software.
- Perform system integration and testing to include verification of functionality and validation of accuracy.
- Provide life-cycle support for assigned products including training, automated test systems, documentation, configuration management, maintenance and improvement.
- Be a liaison with all other departments, vendors, sales reps distributors and customers as necessary to support and promote the products.
- Perform project management for assigned projects and products. This includes direction of assigned project staff and project planning and management per the appropriate SOPs.
Supervisory Responsibilites:
Directly supervise 8 to 12 employees in the RF / Electrical, Mechanical, Software and Embedded, Production and Engineering Test, CAD areas as mentioned above. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and any applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Identify departmental and employee training needs and ensure training is completed, recorded and maintained.
Job Requirements:
BSEE or equivalent; or ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5+ years supervisory and/or management experience required.
