Job Description: 

 

The CNC Operator is responsible for operating CNC turning and milling machines to manufacture precision components safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. The role supports customer delivery requirements through effective machine operation, inspection and continuous improvement activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC machining lathes and associated equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Perform first-off and in-process inspections.
  • Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers and gauges.
  • Record production and quality data accurately.
  • Report machine, tooling or quality issues promptly.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organised work area.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow company quality, health and safety procedures.

 

Requirements for Consideration:

Essential

  • Experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of precision measurement techniques.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.

Desirable

  • CNC setting experience.
  • Fanuc control knowledge.
  • Experience of continuous improvement activities.
  • Apprenticeship or engineering qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.

 

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Previous CNC machining experience preferred.
  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification desirable.
  • GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English.
