Job Description: 

The Conformal Coating Operator performs masking, coating, curing, inspection, touch-up, and related processing of electronic assemblies in accordance with approved manufacturing procedures, engineering requirements, customer specifications, and quality standards. This position applies conformal coatings to protect electronic assemblies from environmental conditions while ensuring workmanship, coverage, thickness, and appearance meet established acceptance criteria. The operator must successfully complete required training and maintain certification to perform conformal coating operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply conformal coatings to printed circuit boards, assemblies, and electronic products in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings, process specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Perform masking and demasking operations to protect designated areas from coating application.
  • Prepare approved coating materials, tools, fixtures, and equipment according to established procedures.
  • Operate conformal coating equipment, spray systems, curing ovens, ventilation systems, and associated process equipment.
  • Apply acrylic, polyurethane, or other approved coating materials using manual or automated processes.
  • Verify coating coverage, thickness, and workmanship using visual inspection, magnification, ultraviolet light inspection, and applicable acceptance criteria.
  • Perform touch-up, rework, and coating repairs as authorized by process documentation.
  • Follow required curing profiles, drying times, material controls, and handling requirements.
  • Read and interpret manufacturing routers, engineering documentation, work instructions, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Identify nonconforming conditions and promptly report quality concerns to supervision, Engineering, or Quality.
  • Maintain accurate production records and process documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices.
  • Accurately enter production data, inspection results, process parameters, and material usage manually and in computer-based systems.
  • Handle electronic assemblies in accordance with ESD, contamination-control, and product-handling requirements.
  • Maintain required conformal coating training and certification.
  • Support safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English and follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, technical documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Basic computer and data-entry skills with the ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to successfully complete required conformal coating training and certification.
  • Ability to visually identify coating coverage, defects, and workmanship characteristics.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in electronics manufacturing, assembly, coating, painting, or a related manufacturing operation.
  • Experience with conformal coating materials and processes.
  • Experience inspecting electronic assemblies to IPC or similar workmanship standards.
  • Familiarity with ESD-controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Experience using manufacturing execution systems, ERP systems, or electronic production records.
  • IPC certification or related electronics manufacturing training.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, safety, and quality practices.
  • Ability to perform repetitive work while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Strong visual inspection, organization, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to safely handle chemicals, solvents, and coating materials while following applicable requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, product quality, and process discipline.

 

Physical Requirements:

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for coating, masking, inspection, and documentation activities.
  • Close visual inspection of small electronic assemblies and components, including the ability to distinguish colors and coating coverage characteristics.
  • Occasional lifting and movement of materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, face protection, or respiratory protection as required.

 

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment that includes electronic assembly, coating, and curing operations. Employees may work with solvents, coatings, adhesives, and other manufacturing materials and must comply with all environmental, health, safety, ESD, and quality requirements. Required ventilation and personal protective equipment must be used when performing coating operations.
