The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for leading and developing the Shipping and Receiving team while overseeing all domestic and international inbound and outbound logistics activities. This role ensures the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of materials and finished goods to support customer delivery commitments and operational objectives.

The Logistics Supervisor will drive freight cost reduction initiatives, optimize transportation strategies, improve logistics processes, and ensure compliance with applicable trade regulations, export controls, customs requirements, and internal procedures. The position serves as a key liaison between Operations, Customer Service, Procurement, Finance, and external logistics partners.

 

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and develop a team of shipping and receiving personnel.
  • Establish daily priorities and ensure timely execution of shipping, receiving, and inventory transactions.
  • Monitor workforce productivity, accuracy, and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Conduct coaching, employee development, and performance management activities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, customer service, continuous improvement, and safety.

Domestic & International Logistics Management

  • Manage inbound and outbound domestic and international shipments across parcel, LTL, truckload, air, ocean, and expedited modes as applicable.
  • Coordinate transportation activities with freight carriers, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international shipping regulations, export requirements, customs documentation, and trade compliance policies.
  • Oversee preparation of commercial invoices, certificates of origin, EEI filings, and other export documentation.
  • Resolve shipment delays, freight claims, customs issues, and customer delivery challenges.
  • Monitor carrier performance and service levels to ensure on-time delivery objectives are achieved.

Freight Cost Management

  • Develop and execute initiatives to reduce freight and logistics costs.
  • Analyze transportation spend and identify opportunities for shipment consolidation, mode optimization, routing improvements, and carrier negotiations.
  • Manage relationships with carriers and logistics providers to achieve competitive pricing and reliable service levels.
  • Establish and track logistics KPIs including freight spend, expedited freight costs, carrier performance, and on-time delivery metrics.
  • Lead freight bid processes and support negotiation of transportation agreements as appropriate.

Shipping & Receiving Operations

  • Oversee receipt, inspection, storage, and shipment of materials and products.
  • Ensure accurate inventory transactions within the ERP system.
  • Coordinate material movements to support production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Maintain shipping documentation and records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with packaging, labeling, and hazardous material shipping requirements where applicable.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer service.
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to improve inventory flow and warehouse utilization.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and work instructions for logistics processes.
  • Use data analysis and reporting tools to drive operational improvements and decision-making.
  • Support ERP system enhancements and logistics process automation initiatives.

 

Required

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of logistics, shipping/receiving, warehouse, or supply chain experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing domestic and international freight operations.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of domestic and international transportation, customs regulations, and export compliance requirements.
  • Experience with freight carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and parcel shipping systems.
  • Working knowledge of Incoterms, export documentation, HS classifications, and EEI filing requirements.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-marking, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs
