We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who will support our development of new and existing products. Conducts feasibility studies and testing new and modified designs. Evaluates existing mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging processes to enhance performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Oversee detailed design activities, testing procedures, and prototype development.
JOB ROLE:
- Work on complex mechanical designs for the Electron Microscopy Technologies (EMT) products.
- Attend online meetings, design reviews, and other online activities on the Pacific Coast (PST) time zone.
- Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
- Participate in VAVE (Value Analysis Value Engineering).
- Break down difficult technical concepts and communicate with team members.
- Conduct design reviews at peer, program and upper management levels as needed.
- Create 3D solid models from conceptual stage to release of 2D and assembly drawings into production.
- Design sheet metal parts.
- Assemble and test prototypes and pre-production units.
- Interface with vendors and manufacturing personnel to ensure manufacturability and design performance.
- Design tooling and fixtures.
- Design understanding of heat transfer and thermal cooling methods including water circuit and TEC design.
- System level understanding of electro-mechanical design.
- Demonstrated ability to lead more junior level engineers through development projects.
- Demonstrated ability to break down difficult technical concepts and explain it to groups outside Mechanical Engineering, including Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, NPI, Service, and upper management.
- Demonstrated ability to take full ownership of a new product design and drive from C&F to Volume release.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in instrument or semiconductor equipment mechanical design, vacuum, thermal, mechanism, X-ray shielding, mechatronics (not all these are required).
- 3D CAD, FEA, PLM software previous experience
- Experience in designing sheet metal parts and understands the sheet metal fabrication process requirements.
- Experience in system level design and integration, and prototyping.
- In-depth knowledge of advanced engineering materials, ANSI/ASME Y14.5M drawing standards, (GD) tolerancing, surface finishes.
- Design for serviceability and manufacturability.
- Extensive experience with an advanced 3D CAD system (Inventor, ProE, SolidWorks, etc.). Experience with Autodesk Inventor is a plus.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic, collaborates effectively as a team player, and consistently shows initiative, ownership, and follow-through.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid engineering methodology and process-oriented design.

DESIRABLE SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:
- ANSYS Workbench FEA, Agile PLM, experience with HALT/HASS, high voltage design, electron or ion beam instruments, magnetic shielding, x-ray radiation shielding, coatings, and paint.
