About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Lead – Mechanical to drive the design, development, analysis, qualification, and product support of high-reliability aerospace and defense mechanical/electromechanical systems. This role is ideal for a senior mechanical engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, colloborating with cross-functional teams, and delivering robust products for demanding aerospace applications.

The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in mechanical design, aerospace product development, CAD/CAE, GD&T, tolerance analysis, structural and thermal analysis, environmental qualification, and technical leadership. The role involves working closely with systems, electrical, power electronics, thermal, manufacturing, quality, certification, supply chain, program management, customer, and global engineering teams.

What You Will Do

Mechanical Design & Product Development

  • Lead mechanical design and development of aerospace-grade electromechanical products such as actuators, motors, starter-generators and electronic packaging systems.
  • Own concept design, 3D modelling, detailing, assembly design, drawing release, and engineering documentation.
  • Develop mechanical architectures that balance performance, reliability, weight, cost, manufacturability, testability, and serviceability.
  • Design components and assemblies involving sheet metal, machined parts, castings, enclosures, sealing features, connector interfaces, and EMI/EMC shielding.
  • Support board fitment, enclosure design, packaging optimization, vibration tolerance, and thermal management for aerospace electronic and electromechanical products.

Analysis, Simulation & Qualification Support

  • Lead structural, thermal, modal, vibration, shock, and fatigue analysis activities to support design validation and product performance.
  • Review FEA and thermal analysis results and guide design improvements based on simulation, qualification, and test outcomes.
  • Support environmental qualification activities covering thermal, vibration, altitude, EMI/EMC, conducted emissions, and radiated emissions requirements.
  • Support qualification and verification processes for aerospace products, including DO-160-related test and compliance activities.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership across the product lifecycle, from concept development through qualification, certification, production release, and field support.
  • Mentor engineers, review technical work, establish design best practices, and promote engineering excellence across the team.
  • Lead technical reviews including PDR, CDR, TRR, design reviews, risk reviews, and root-cause reviews.
  • Own technical risk identification, mitigation planning, design trade studies, and engineering decision-making for mechanical product development.
  • Drive design standardization, reuse, cost reduction, manufacturability improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Documentation, PLM & Configuration Management

  • Prepare and review engineering documentation, technical reports, design justifications, analysis reports, proposals, and customer presentations.
  • Manage BOMs, drawing releases, configuration control, and engineering change activities through PLM systems.
  • Support Engineering Change Requests/Engineering Change Notices and product upgrade activities through PLM systems such as ARAS / Teamcenter / Windchill or equivalent.
  • Ensure released designs meet internal engineering processes, customer requirements, quality expectations, and aerospace compliance expectations.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with systems, electrical, power electronics, thermal, software, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, certification, and program management teams.
  • Represent mechanical engineering in customer discussions, technical reviews, audits, certification reviews, supplier discussions, and program reviews.
  • Support prototype builds, first article inspection, component prove-out, manufacturing transition, and production issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams to deliver projects on schedule while meeting cost, quality, reliability, and compliance targets.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 12–16 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in aerospace, defense, electromechanical systems, power systems, or electronic packaging domains.
  • Strong experience in designing and developing actuators, motors, starter-generators, electronic packaging assemblies, or similar high-reliability products.
  • Hands-on expertise in 3D modelling, detailing, tolerance analysis, drawing release, and engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of aerospace design and qualification requirements such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, environmental, vibration, thermal, and reliability requirements.
  • Experience with PLM/configuration management systems and engineering change processes.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and ability to prepare technical reports, proposals, cost estimates, and presentations.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in aerospace or defense product development, qualification, and compliance-driven engineering environments.
  • Experience with high-reliability design practices, redundancy considerations, thermal management, and safety-critical product development.
  • Exposure to model-based design / model-based systems engineering tools such as MATLAB / Simulink / Dymola.
  • Experience in working with globally distributed engineering teams, customers, suppliers, and certification stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting technical roadmaps, innovation initiatives, risk mitigation, and design maturity improvements.

Technical Skills

  • Aerospace mechanical/electromechanical product design
  • CAD tools: SolidWorks / Inventor / Creo / UG-NX
  • PDM / Vault tools: SolidWorks PDM / Inventor Vault / Teamcenter
  • 3D modelling / detailing / assembly design / drawing release
  • GD&T / tolerance stack-up / DFM / DFA / DFC
  • Structural / thermal / modal / vibration / shock / fatigue analysis
  • Environmental qualification / aerospace compliance
  • PLM / configuration management / ECR-ECN implementation
  • Technical documentation / design reviews / stakeholder communication
  • Team mentoring / technical leadership / risk mitigation / delivery ownership
