Summary:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for design, development, creating 3D models and detailed engineering drawings to support the new product development and manufacturing. This role also includes reverse engineering of components for FAA-PMA certification and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs and documentation for aerospace systems, including oxygen systems, fire extinguishing systems, mask assemblies, harnesses, valves, and fittings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using Autodesk Inventor and Vault, ensuring adherence to ASME Y14 standards.
- Perform reverse engineering and dimensional inspections to support prototype development and production documentation.
- Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and revise manufacturing route sheets as needed.
- Create and maintain documentation for New Product Development (NPD) and FAA-PMA compliance, including status trackers.
- Conduct in-depth research using technical manuals and service bulletins to document product functionality and failure modes.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with global, cross-functional teams to transform design concepts into manufacturable solutions.
- Estimate effort, track progress, and provide timely updates with minimal supervision.
- Take full ownership of projects by proactively planning for multiple potential outcomes and executing tasks independently with minimal follow-up.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on design intent and quality standards.
- Stay current with advancements in design tools, manufacturing technologies, and industry standards.
Qualifications & requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 2 years to 6 years of experience in mechanical CAD, preferably in aerospace or precision engineering.
- Proficient in 3D modeling and 2D drafting using Autodesk Inventor (preferred), SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD software.
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiar with imperial units and third-angle projection standards.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings per ASME Y14 series standards.
- Experience with AS9100 documentation is a plus.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF handling.
- Strong command of English with effective communication skills across email, documentation, chat, and meetings.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and task ownership.
