Job Description:
Position Summary: The Design Engineer will coordinate and execute on-time completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, directs, and coordinates preparation of project documentation, such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules to ensure customer contract requirements are met. Reviews project technical specification requirements to determine documentation required for each phase of project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Schedules due dates for drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and other documents. Monitors status of project to ensure documentation is submitted according to schedule.
- Reviews and verifies project documents for completeness, format, and compliance with technical specification requirements.
- Submits project documentation to management for approval and transmits approved documents to customers.
- Utilize manual hand measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, pin gages, microscope, hardness tester, optical comparator, coordinate measuring machine (CMM) or 3D scanning device to establish identical materials, dimensions, tolerances, processes and manufacturing specifications. Research new materials and methods of development.
- Confers with engineers, managers, customers, and others to discuss projects and prepare documents.
- Design, test/validate and build mechanical/electrical aviation safety components and equipment to support Ameron businesses.
- Utilize and incorporate general mechanical design principles, including design for manufacturing (DFM) and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Knowledge of aircraft structure, materials, strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions and processes such as corrosion prevention, fatigue and tolerance stack analysis best practices.
- Provide technical solutions support for a wide range of assign sustaining engineering tasks. Create DCN/ECN and update engineering acceptance test procedures/plan.
- Mechanical aptitude ability required to understand the function and intent of various design changes. Perform 3D CAD models and generate 2D manufacturing drawings. Check and update drawings for release in Vault PDM engineering BOM.
- General understanding of aerospace AS9100 quality management system, material properties, including metals and plastics. Ability to define and document processes as required.
Education:
- Associate Technical Degree or
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree or equivalent
Qualifications:
- General written and oral communications skills
- Advanced level of proficiency in AutoCad Inventor Professional 2024+ or equivalent, MS Office (Word,Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Proven team player who has demonstrated capabilities in the following areas: excellent communication and interpersonal skills, well developed problem-solving skills; solid organizational skills; and the demonstrated ability to be self-directed and effectively relate to all levels of an organization.
