Job Summary:

The Director, Business Segment Manager, is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic, commercial, and technical performance of the Instrumentation Systems business segment which is part of AMETEK’s Instrumentation Controls and Vision Systems (ICVS) business unit. This individual will lead a cross-functional team with full P&L ownership and drive growth through business development, engineering innovation, and disciplined project execution. The role supports product lines from both National Controls Corporation (NCC), a leader in custom electronic controls, and Vehicular Instrumentation Systems (VIS), a provider of ruggedized instrumentation, displays, and power systems for harsh environments. The role requires a strong blend of strategic vision, operational rigor, and customer-centric leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the full P&L for the business segment, driving revenue growth, margin expansion, and cost optimization.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans aligned with AMETEK’s Instrumentation Systems segment objectives.
  • Lead annual operating plans, long-range strategic planning, and capital investment initiatives.
  • Identify and evaluate M&A opportunities; lead integration efforts to maximize strategic value.
  • Drive market expansion through proactive business development and strategic partnerships.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with OEMs and key customers, serving as a trusted advisor and growth catalyst.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to define product positioning, pricing, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Translate customer insights into actionable product development and innovation initiatives.
  • Oversee engineering teams responsible for custom control boards, HMI displays, CAN-based modules, and multiplexed power systems.
  • Champion innovation in ruggedized electronics, embedded systems, and user interface technologies.
  • Ensure product development aligns with customer requirements, industry standards, and long-term technology trends.
  • Lead project management to ensure successful execution of customer and internal programs.
  • Implement best practices in project governance, risk mitigation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Drive operational excellence through lean principles, digital transformation, and scalable processes.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams across business development, engineering, and project management.
  • Maintain oversight of daily operations and indirect authority over all functional areas to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and accountability to support business unit success.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop talent pipelines and succession plans to support long-term organizational growth.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance, ESG standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the business unit with integrity and transparency to internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in industrial electronics, vehicular systems, or ruggedized instrumentation.
  • Proven track record of P&L ownership and delivering profitable growth.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams including engineering, business development, and project management.
  • Strong communication and strategic planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer-integrated development programs.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA or advanced technical degree (e.g., MSc in Engineering).
  • Experience in M&A strategy and post-merger integration.
  • Familiarity with OEM customer environments and long-cycle product development.
  • Background in digital transformation and lean operational practices.
  • Knowledge of ESG principles and corporate governance frameworks.
  • Experience working within a matrixed, global organization.

Salary Minimum:  $190,000
Salary Maximum:  $200,000 +
