About Sunpower
Sunpower, based in Athens, OH, is looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our growing team of interns which currently includes other individuals from electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and engineering and technology management programs of study. The ideal candidate will be a junior or higher majoring in Electrical Engineering or with significant relevant coursework. This will be a full-time summer position (40 hours per week). The position could result in a multiple semester position (full- or part-time) and may lead to a full-time placement after graduation dependent on the needs of the business.
Position Purpose
Under the direction of senior Electrical Engineering staff members, this position will support daily activities with a focus on support of cryocooler manufacturing, process development, and product improvement at Sunpower. Sunpower is looking for a well-rounded engineer that has demonstrated a high level of achievement and initiative demonstrated in educational, intern, co-operative, and experiential settings.
Essential Duties

Cryocooler Manufacturing Support (approximately 40% of the time)
Manufacturing support includes production of controllers to meet production schedule; sourcing alternate components for products for redesign, replacement, and/or obsolescence; and support of sales including interaction with vendors; compliance with all Quality Assurance and ISO 9001 policies and procedures, etc. -
Process Development (approximately 20% of the time)
Process development includes effort to transfer new products from Engineering to Production, development of procedures, development of process documentation, troubleshooting, etc. -
Product Improvement (approximately 15% of the time)
Support of compliance testing and certification. -
Collaborative Communication/Liaison Duties (approximately 15% of the time)
This role is intended to foster cross-function collaboration and communication between Engineering, Production, Project Management and Quality Assurance, thus working with team members from each department. This role is also a key liaison between customers and suppliers. -
Other duties as assigned (10% of the time)
Minimum Qualifications
Ambition demonstrated by cooperative education, internships or other informal work experience is valued. This position will experience a wide variety of multi-discipline tasks and opportunities to exercise a broad background of experience.
