POSITION PURPOSE

Spaceflight cryocooler Quality Engineers are responsible for supporting the Quality Management System (QMS) as it directly relates to Spaceflight Cryocooler Production and Engineering by establishing and ensuring compliance with production and documentation control. This position is also responsible for writing and revising process documents and work instructions for Spaceflight Cryocooler production tasks, processes, and procedures. This position works as part of the Quality Team and will report to the Quality Manager, with special assignment to the Spaceflight Cryocooler business. This position is tightly integrated with Spaceflight Engineering team, Assembly Technicians, Manufacturing Technicians and Leads, and the QA Inspection team.

 

CORE DUTIES (Must do functions)

  1. Working closely with the Spaceflight Cryocooler Build Engineer and Technicians, create project-specific production control documentation such as routings, process documents and test procedures.

  2. Standup and chair the Spaceflight Configuration Control Board.

  3. Facilitate review and approval of all project-based documentation (of Engineering and Quality origin) through the project-based Configuration Control Board.

  4. Administer production control of Spaceflight Cryocooler hardware via delivering all necessary documentation and hardware in job packs to the production floor; collect all hardware and documentation when jobs are complete; ensure documentation has been completed properly and conduct follow-up activities as necessary to complete; close and file jobs within the record-keeping system.

  5. Maintain control of bonded-storage inventory.

  6. Collect documentation for and organize end item data packages in line with customer needs and Quality standards.

  7. Collect, organize and maintain project-based electronic inspection data as well as running surface pictures and evaluation.

  8. Initiate non-conforming material coordination and resolution, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action processes, including interfacing with external customers to resolve quality issues. Appropriately quarantine non-conforming materials.

  9. Comply with all Ametek Policies and Procedures.

  10. Assist in the development, implementation, and improvement of the AMT Quality Management System.

 

ROUTINE FUNCTIONS (Lower priority than core)

  1. Serve as a member of the Sunpower Quality Internal Audit Team, auditing spaceflight procedures in accordance with approved Quality documentation.

  2. Support efforts to maintain ISO 9001 Certification and achieve AS9100 Certification.

  3. Work with program management to evaluate scope of customer’s specific quality requirements and ability to comply; develop specific Quality Assurance Program Plans as needed.

  4. Serve as the primary interface with customer’s quality representatives.

  5. Participate in customer-specific contract and product design reviews.

  6. Determining and implementing quality improvement factors, including implementing continuous improvement product and/or process systems that prevent quality issues with cross-functional team support.

  7. Working in accordance with deadlines for delivery of products.

  8. Provide weekly status updates to the Quality Manager.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  1. Strong mechanical background and technical aptitude.

  2. Ability to understand and condense complex technical concepts into concise terms to convey information to the target user in written or multimedia formats. 

  3. Ability to receive and follow work instructions precisely while paying strict attention to detail.

  4. Ability to work alone and as part of a team.

  5. Highly self-motivated and driven to complete tasks on schedule with minimal supervision.

  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

  7. Strong communication skills (oral and written).

  8. Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office experience (i.e, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access).

  9. Presents positive impact within the Quality Assurance team and other work groups. 

  10. Must have the ability to start and organize others and work with cross-functional groups.

  11. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

 

EDUCATION AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  1. Four-year Engineering or Industrial Technology Degree preferred; equivalent work experience acceptable.

  2. Minimum 5 years Quality Engineering experience required, aerospace experience preferred.

  3. Working knowledge of mechanical/technical processes. 

  4. Experience writing technical and/or process documents.

  5. Experience reading technical specifications and processes, engineering drawings and descriptions as they relate to engineering designs, process flow, manufacturing techniques and quality standards, ISO experience is highly desirable

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use fingers or hands to manipulate objects; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
