Position Overview:
The prospective engineer will serve as the spaceflight cryocooler Project Engineer and will be responsible for the daily activities of the spaceflight cryocooler team. This involves responsibility for implementing the build schedule, coordinating daily build activities, procurement, verifying tests that demonstrate customer requirements, collaboration with engineering, shop, technician, and manufacturing groups, etc. The Project Engineer will also be involved in the development of proposals and schedules for spaceflight cryocooler projects. The Project Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager.
CORE DUTIES (Must do functions)

Coordinate and collaborate daily build activities with the spaceflight cryocooler build team and other functional areas within Sunpower including cryocooler manufacturing, quality assurance, machine shop.

Ensure delivery of spaceflight cryocooler hardware to customer specification and per build schedule.

Review and collaborate with necessary teams on build routings and process documentation incorporating processing steps, inspection, and special requirements.

Creation and maintenance of Bills of Materials.

Create test and inspection reports as needed per customer requirements.

Coordinate with Sunpower machine shop, purchasing and/or external vendors to procure components, subassemblies, and fixturing to documented specifications.

Coordinate with Sunpower purchasing to procure and track test equipment and lab equipment as needed to meet the build schedule.

Participate in programmatic and customer meetings and communication as needed.

Assist proposal and schedule development including resource estimates, requirements reviews, and technical proposal submissions

Collaborate with a multi-disciplined Engineering team.
ROUTINE FUNCTIONS (Lower priority than core)

Attend routine technical and programmatic meetings.

Continuously develop skills through education, observation and mentoring.

Participate in lessons learned activities in an effort to improve spaceflight production processes and knowledge transfer to and from commercial cryocooler manufacturing.

Track inventory as it moves through Engineering and Quality Departments

Support custom spaceflight cryocoolers and ad-hoc requests from customers
Education:
-
Minimum Bachelor of Science in ISE, ETM, ME, or relevant Engineering field
Required Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in a cross-functional team.

Experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is essential.

Ability to define problems, collect data, troubleshoot, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions (problem-solving skills).

Ability to delegate, organize, prioritize, and complete responsibilities in a timely manner.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments in parallel.
Relevant Experience:

Experience with technical project work

Experience with low-rate initial production (LRIP) is preferred.

Experience working in a quality system such as ISO 9001

WORK ENVIRONMENT
