Position Purpose:

Under the direction of senior Electrical Engineering staff members, this position will support daily activities with a focus on support of cryocooler manufacturing, product and process development, and product improvement at Sunpower. The positon will support the Electrical Engineering lead by assisting with administrative duties such as team management, scheduling, inventory tracking, and reporting. This position will serve as a key cross-functional collaborator in support of Sunpower’s Engineering and Manufacturing operations. Sunpower is looking for a well-rounded engineer that has demonstrated a high level of achievement and initiative demonstrated in educational, intern, co-operative, and/or professional settings. 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Administrative/Collaborative Communication/Liaison Duties:
    This role will be responsible for supporting administrative tasks within the electrical engineering team, to foster cross-function collaboration and communication between Engineering, Production, Project Management and Quality Assurance, thus working with team members from each department. This role is also a key liaison between customers and suppliers.
  • Cryocooler Manufacturing Support:
    Manufacturing support includes production of controllers to meet production schedule; diagnosis of failure modes in returned hardware and collaboration in root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and directing and performing repairs as needed; sourcing alternate components for products for redesign, replacement, and/or obsolescence; and support of sales and customers, management of custom hardware, interaction with vendors; compliance with all Quality Assurance and ISO 9001 policies and procedures, etc. 

  • Process Development:
    Process development includes effort to transfer new products from Engineering to Production, development of procedures, development of process documentation, troubleshooting, etc. 

  • Product Improvement:
    Product improvement includes redesign, design modification, development of new capabilities, support of compliance testing and certification, and participation in the Sunpower Configuration Control Board for product and process improvement.

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Ambition demonstrated by cooperative education, internships or other informal work experience is valued. This position will experience a wide variety of multi-discipline tasks and opportunities to exercise a broad background of experience.

  • Education: The successful candidate will hold a Bachelors of Science in Electrical or other relevant Engineering from an accredited university; or equivalent experience.

  • Experience: Additionally, the successful candidate must also possess:

    • 3-5 years directly related experience

    • Supervisory experience overseeing entry-level staff or junior team members

     

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Breadth of knowledge of engineering, project management and quality disciplines;

    • Demonstrated experience reading schematics and using ECAD software;

    • Demonstrated data collection, analysis, and reporting experience;

    • Demonstrated collaboration skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of power electronics and controls, electronics development experience and/or manufacturing support experience. Additional compelling – but not required – qualifications include:

  • Lean manufacturing or process improvement experience/certification.

  • Experience working with a team and guiding day-to-day activities to achieve production goals.

  • Experience with managing hardware flow to meet production schedule demands.

  • Experience in troubleshooting hardware and software and identifying failure modes.

  • Experience working within an ISO 9001, AS 9100, or relevant Quality Management System.

  • General familiarity with laboratory equipment, processes, and safety measures.
